“Reverse SEO” is a method SEO specialists use in Online Reputation Management or ORM to manage any negative search engine results that may pop up from Google. One of the most important aspects of website optimization is allowing your viewers to interact with you and many SEO specialists make use of online customer feedback survey tools in order to achieve this.
There are many ways to practice good ORM and we’re going to tell you how in 10 minutes or less.
Bad Reputation – it can happen to anyone!
Call it a bold statement but it’s true. Everyone at some point in time will earn themselves a bad reputation. In one of my previous posts (which I am now supplementing with this newer article), I said that you won’t really know when a negative reputation will hit you and your website. It can be an irate customer leaving you negative feedback or it can simply be human error but at the end of the day, something or someone will most definitely give your website a negative reputation.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – there are ways to fix this and you must understand how to use them effectively. Most importantly is that you should know how to take advantage of negative reviews!
Making the Most out of a Negative Review:
One of the most important things an SEO Specialist has to take advantage of are the numerous tools that are available to them at any given time. While I have always said that SEO is a craft that requires constant practice and refinement, there’s no harm in using tools or services to help you make your SEO better. One of the best things that I have ever used for ORM is Qeryz and it’s free to use!
Qeryz is a free to try customer feedback survey tool which lets you interact with your customers. It’s a survey tool that gives your visitors a one or two question survey which they can answer in less than 20 seconds. It’s a great way to take advantage of NPS or Net Promoter Score while understanding WHAT people may dislike about your website. The Net Promoter Score or simply NPS is essentially a scale of 1 to 10 where customers can rate your website or service and it’s a great way to collect information because it takes less than a minute to answer.
This is what Qeryz looks like and it’s very simple. It takes less than 10 seconds to answer which encourages more people to voluntarily give you their feedback – whether good or bad.
Feedback is one of the most important tools in an SEO Specialist’s arsenal precisely because it allows them to prevent their website from garnering negative reputation! Basically speaking, if you know what kind of content that people dislike then you can AVOID posting them!
Understanding what people like about your website is good because it tells you that you’re doing something right. In my opinion, however, it is also important to understand what people dislike about your website because it tells you what people prefer and how you can make your website better. These two types of feedback is good because they synergize well together, allowing you to constantly craft your website into something closer to SEO Perfection.
So what does this have to do with ORM and SEO? Everything! The most basic way to manage your online reputation is PREVENTION. Prevent negative reviews by listening to customer feedback and in the long run, you will be appreciated by your visitors as well as ranking higher in google because of positive reviews. Everybody wins.
Understanding Reverse SEO
Basically speaking, Reverse SEO is you problem solving anything negative about your website. It can be hiding a negative review or simply overriding them with higher ranking content. Believe it or not, Reverse SEO is actually a White Hat Technique because it follows all of Google’s guidelines as well as doing regular SEO to improve your bad reputation.
Overriding is almost always what happens when a sensible SEO Specialist employs Reverse SEO. They create worthwhile content that helps their website rank higher while pushing the negative content down until it no longer appears in the SERP which makes it harder for people to find them.
Simply put, the best way to employ Reverse SEO is by creating great content and then having them rank higher in SERPs. It’s hard but very fulfilling because if you manage to to override your negative reputation with healthy, organic content, not only do you grow your website, you also redeem yourself in a very satisfying way.
Reverse SEO or Online Reputation Management, in general, are two different things but sometimes they can be the same depending on how you use them. Anyone can get a negative reputation online and it can be a little hard to get rid of it but it can be done.
However, my advice has been and always will be: “The best Online Reputation Management Strategy is Prevention.”
I’ve said that before and I’m saying it again. It’s much easier to simply listen to customer feedback than by problem solving accrued negative reputation online. At the end of the day, not only does your website become better, it also lets people know that you take them seriously – and that makes a very big difference, in a really big way.
