How our Team Stays Updated with SEO and Digital Marketing

Keeping Updated with SEO

I understand. It’s really tough to keep yourself updated with all the clutter, truths, myths, and ultimately, crap content out there on the web. So here’s the little ingredient we use at SEO Hacker to keep ourselves updated with the latest in the industry.

Growth is Important

The day a tree stops growing is the day it dies.

Growth is common – especially in our day and age. There are just so many things to learn. So many things to get good at. And in a competitive, knowledge-based industry, growth is vital.

Without growth, you simply die.

Yes you may still have clients, and a team, and an office. But the day you stop growing, you’re doomed. Because the whole world is outgrowing you.

You don’t want that to happen.

No one does.

My Personal Benchmark

SEO Trends

I read around 5 relevant blogs a day more or less. It depends on my schedule. By relevant, I mean relevant to my personal growth in the industry and as a leader.

Stuff that are (mostly) not from 9gag.

I read stuff about SEO, copywriting, social media marketing, web development, User Experience, Analytics, and so on and so forth. These are stuff that I place my whole business on. Stuff that were able to help me bootstrap SEO Hacker without any investors, and without any significant capital at all.

Consistent personal growth has been the key to leading and growing SEO Hacker. Reading books, testing strategies, tinkering with code – all of these things has shaped my leadership, management and marketing skills into what it is today.

Our Drive for Growth

The SEO Hacker team is not at all big. We’re just 16 people trying to work our way serving clients. Sounds boring doesn’t it?

Well, it’s not.

Growth makes things fun in our office. Everyone’s free to try anything – just not in the client’s web properties of course. My teammates each have their own personal blogs where they can tinker, test and learn.

But the best part is, we share what we’re learning in our internal Growth board.

SEO Hacker Growth Board

Trello is a free project management tool you can use. We’re using it for all sorts of purposes – and we’ve figured out a way to use it for growing ourselves and taking the entire team with us.

Whenever there’s something new I’ve learned, I put the article in our Growth board, link it to the proper website and notify people in my team who will benefit from that piece of knowledge.

Easy as pie.

Tools and Resource Sites we Use

Finding the right articles for you and your team doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are some good starting points:

Inbound.org – this is basically a marketing community that can double as an inbound marketing news feed and resource center. Almost all the latest posts in all sorts of blogs are in there.

Groove Blog – A very interesting, no-holds-barred approach in starting a SaaS business. I’m mostly the one posting this in our Growth board because I can completely relate to what Alex is going through.

Quicksprout – Say what you will but Neil Patel is definitely shaking the digital marketing world with his advanced guides and simplified entries on technical and marketing know-hows.

The Top 10 Inbound Marketing News to Stay Updated

We found that it is extremely hard for webmasters and business owners to read up and keep up on the latest trends, news, and strategies on the web.

So we figured out a way to make it really simple.

We went through the tons of articles we read each month, and sifted out the best, most actionable, and extremely relevant ones to send out as a newsletter.

And so Growth Hacks was born.

Growth Hacks Form

It’s where we put the best of our Growth Board – and make sure our subscribers grow with us.

Is it hard keeping up with SEO and Digital Marketing?

Not really.
