Tips for Keeps: Keep on improving the links you have from these web 2.0 sites in terms of tags, descriptions, pictures, additional links, etc…

Two questions:
1. Why is this not a good way to go to build links?
2. If I am building my brand, and put nearly identical information on all of these various sites (but not identical to what is on my website or blog), will this do more damage to my brand? In other words, will Search Engines view it as spam or as duplicate content, and therefore discredit it?
Hi Jeremy,
Well this is not a good way to build links for the sake of ranking because it deals with websites without real, direct relevance to your SEO campaign EXCEPT if you’re building a brand. For example: if you’re selling chairs, all the web 2.0 sites i’ve listed are not really directly relevant to chairs or any vertically related idea. But if you are building around a brand of a chair, then putting up web 2.0 profiles can be a good strategy.
The answer to your second question is: No it won’t damage. It might, however not rank/help as well as you think it would if it contains duplicate content and the search engines discredit it.
It doesn’t do damage to your site, in fact it will give your site a boost. Sean is correct, it doesn’t directly give you a ranking boost for the keyword that you’re trying to rank but instead it will give your site a good natural backlink profile that will tell Google you’re site has a brand. We’re talking about domain trust.
That’s a really helpful post.
Thank you for the reply. That is very helpful. I keep forgetting that it is not just the links on other blogs and website that are helpful, but the “kind” of websites and blogs that those links are on.
You are right. According to Social Media Strategy is very Important. What you say?? is it?
Strategy is always important regardless :)
Sean,
this is a great resource – very comprehensive. And thanks for indicating the page rank of these sites. I’ll add Hubpages to the list as well.
Many people are building links to these sites for ranking ; and many of them are using social bookmarking tools like SocialAdr, Onlywire. Posterous is one of my favorite site.
henry
Thanks for your input Henry! I’ll look into Hubpages and try to add it up here too. Onlywire is a very good social bookmarking tool! Do you use it?

You SHOULD try Posterous too Dan. Trust me.
This is good stuff you have in your blog. Thanks for using commentluv and I have bookmarked your site. After the Panda update top SEO’s have all agreed that in order to reach the top of the SERPS you have to have a good quality site. In order for one to achieve that they said you have to build a brand. All of these info you shared here is of high value this is the stuff that people should focus on, building a brand.
Thanks. I never realized Yahoo Answers was such a good option. I’ll open an account with them and start helping.
Hello, a nice list, I’ll do every single one :-)
The key to getting high SEO rakings is to identify which words or phrases best describe the site or the business. These words and phrases are commonly referred to as “keywords”. We will work with a business to choose good keywords and then have these keywords placed in strategic places on your website.
Thank you Sean! Your post really helped me with my brand. I don’t think TypePad is free anymore though, is it? It looks more like a free trial – with the blog being removed after two weeks – in my view.
I’m not entirely sure coz I haven’t checked lately. I still think they have a free version – coz my typepad’s still there.

Looking forward to build my brand on wiki pedia. Thanks for the heads up Sean, you nailed it again.
Thanks man. Glad the idea stuck to you as an actionable info.
Web 2.0 sites are really effective if the content is quality. It brings traffic and can have high PageRank. If the anchor text points to our site then we can benefit in terms of traffic and back links.
That is the best list I have ever found. Good job Sean.
Excellent list,
thanks
This is an off topic question, but I was under the impression CommentLuv was for “do-follow” links. But they all seem like they have the “No-Follow” attribute.
Can anyone explain what’s going on here?
Thanks!
Webmasters can opt to make them dofollow if they want to :)
Very good. Fantastic
