SEO is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization. Simply put, it is the process of making your website a better-ranking site in the search engines than other websites with the same niche or market as yours. So why is SEO important?
Search Engines Matter
Search engines are a big way to get traffic to your site – that is if you have the right content. People who surf the internet almost always look for information they need. If your site provides that but it doesn’t show up when they look for it, then your site is next to useless.
Visibility is key
SEO makes your site more visible to internet users. Marketing is all about getting more people to see what you’re selling or promoting. SEO is like marketing in the search engine. It is a great way to tell people who use search engines: “Hey, look, I’ve got what you need”. And mind you, majority, if not all, people use search engines.
So what now?
Basically, that’s what SEO is. SEO is making it easier for people to find you It’s marketing by keyword competition in the search engines. There is no one way to do SEO though and that’s what I’ll be discussing for the next posts.

Simple but great definition of what is SEO.
Other way of defining SEO would be, making your sites visible to consumers who are looking for the product/service/information your site deliver. Because it is more about optimizing for your customers that for search engines itself.
